EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – GENERAL MANAGER, VALOUR COMMUNITY CENTRE:

 VALOUR COMMUNITY CENTRE MISSION STATEMENT:

  • To serve the whole community by providing inclusive programming and accessible facilities in a safe environment.

 OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • The General Manager’s main responsibility is to act on the mandates given by the Valour CC Board of Directors. The General Manager is responsible for directing all staff; securing stable revenue streams for the community centre; managing costs; managing day-to-day operations; working with the Board to develop plans to allow the community centre to continually improve on serving the community.

CHAIN OF COMMAND:

  • The General Manager reports directly to the Executive of the Board of Directors of Valour Community Centre.

SUPERVISING DUTIES:

  • The General Manager’s direct reports are the IBSRP Coordinator, the ORASP Coordinator, Caretakers, and all Evening/Weekend Staff. In the absence of any of the previously listed direct reports, the General Manager shall become the direct supervisor of their direct reports, as well.
  • In coordination with the VP of Human Resources & Administration, the General Manager is responsible for hiring, performance appraisal, discipline, suspension, and termination of the above listed positions.
  • The General Manager shall work with their direct reports to ensure Valour Community Centre’s programs and facilities are operating efficiently, effectively, and safely with the goal of fulfilling Valour Community Centre’s Mission Statement.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – GENERAL MANAGER, VALOUR COMMUNITY CENTRE:

 RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE GENERAL MANAGER:

  • Bookkeeping, and processing of payroll and expenses.
  • Scheduling of all bookings at the three sites.
  • Scheduling of all staff that directly report to the General Manager.
  • Ensuring Valour’s financial accountability requirements to the City of Winnipeg are met in a timely manner.
  • Applying for grants to deliver programming, secure equipment, secure staffing, and make capital improvements to Valour’s three sites.
  • Liaise with sports associations to ensure sporting opportunities are made available to the community through Valour CC.
  • Liaise with various rental groups to ensure the three sites are booked as much as possible, thus creating stable revenue streams for the community centre.
  • Vendor/Supplier management. I.e. ensuring the community centre is receiving a high level of service at a fair cost from canteen suppliers, cleaning product suppliers, repair technicians, and maintenance providers.
  • In coordination with the Caretakers and/or the VP of Facilities & Grounds, ensure all three sites of Valour Community Centre are up-to-date and in good standing with regard to inspections and licensing.
  • Liaise with GCWCC, CCCCB, the City of Winnipeg, the City Councillor, the various MLA’s, the MP, and any other relevant administrative or political officials.
  • Liaise with various government departments including but not limited to the Manitoba Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority, Manitoba Labour and Immigration, and Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety to ensure the community is in compliance with all regulations. And, in coordination with the Caretakers, address any concerns that may arise and take corrective actions is directed by these authorities.
  • Negotiate contracts with sports associations, leagues, teams, community groups, and social service organizations for rental of the three sites in order to secure steady revenue streams for the community centre.
  • Secure rentals of the three sites from the public for events such as parties, socials, meetings, workshops, etc, to secure steady revenue streams for the community centre.
  • In coordination with the Board of Directors, community groups, sports associations, and the public, develop and deliver an array of inclusive, accessible, desirable, and relevant programming at all three sites.
  • As possible and necessary, seek out donations from the public and private sector, including negotiating sponsorship agreements that conform to the City of Winnipeg’s Sponsorship Guidelines, as approved by the Board.
  • Report to the Board of Directors at regular Board Meetings and at any special meetings called by the Board.
  • Report to the Board and to the Public at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Represent the Board as necessary at the City Centre Community Centres Board meeting, at the GCWCC Annual General Meeting, and any special meeting where their presence is requested.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
  • General Manager may engage in special initiatives that benefit the community centre of their own accord, with the approval of the Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must have a clean Child Abuse Registry check.
  • Must have a clean Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License.
  • Must have daily access to a vehicle.
  • Relevant educational credentials:
    • Undergraduate: Commerce, Public Administration, Economics, Community Development, Recreation Management
    • College: Community Economic Development, Non-Profit Management, Business Administration, Facility Management, Recreation Management
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, the following certifications:
    • First Aid, CPR, Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Must have superior communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Must be comfortable communicating by a variety of means: Face-to-face, phone, e-mail, formal written correspondence, public speaking.
  • Experience scheduling facility-use, and balancing use of facilities between a multitude of groups is preferred.
  • Experience reporting to Boards of Directors, government agencies, and the public is preferred.
  • Experience sourcing, communicating with, and negotiating with contractors/suppliers/vendors is preferred.
  • Must be able to follow directions, be attentive to surroundings, and follow health/safety protocols and procedures.
  • Must be able to give clear directions to employees.
  • Must be able to train employees effectively.
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting principles is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping fundamentals is preferred.
  • Experience in processing payroll, calculating and remitting deductions to CRA, processing T4’s is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in the use of business software such as Simply Accounting, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be courteous.
  • Must be willing to handle cash and, with training, become proficient in the use of the cash register, debit/credit terminal, writing receipts, and following cash-handling protocols.

TERMS:

  • This is a full-time position.
  • The regular work-week is Monday through Friday, however evening and weekend work will be necessitated on occasion.

PAYMENT:

  • Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
