ORIOLES

HISTORY

Between 1934 and 1946, a hockey club called the West End Orioles Athletic Association operated four hockey teams on a property north of Canada Bread Co. In 1946, the property was sold to Valour Road Legion, and the hockey club was informed that they had to relocate. The City decided to keep the West End Orioles in operation and moved the operation to a site south of Hignell Printing. They provided two hockey buildings and erected boards.

In 1948, Mr. Al Crockett, President of the West End Orioles Athletic Association, was advised by the City Recreation Department that the operation could not continue solely as a hockey club. It was required to branch out, recognize, and become a community club. As a result, the name was later changed to Orioles Community Centre Ltd. Over time, Orioles has transformed into a full-service center with facilities for a wide range of programming and community usage.
