Spring 2021 Basketball Season

***Spring 2021 Basketball Season Information***

Hello Westend,
We have some exciting news in regards to our spring 2021 basketball from WMBA that we would like to share with you. Please keep in mind that they are following the Public Health Guidelines and depending on how things evolve, this information can change at anytime. This is what we have so far and WMBA should have more information for us to put out in the next few days to a week. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to having a great Spring Basketball season with you!

High-Level Spring Plan
The high-level plan is to offer spring registration for ages 7-17, starting next week. The program would start with group training much like what we started in October 2020 before the shut down (Code Red). We are hoping to transition into outdoor competition depending on how the Public Health Guidelines evolve. We envision the game-day experience for the coaches and athletes to include a short instructional period or practice and then 3×3 games.

The WMBA has a joint-use agreement with 6 outdoor courts in the city and each of these courts would become district or divisional homes for those players that register.

Training and Game Days:
The Training sessions would consist of 1-hour sessions for coaches and their players. We will have a trainer onsite for at least the first session but the coaches will run the last 2. The training will be based on Public Health Guidelines at the time. (Currently, we can train in the gym with 10 players and 3 coaches, 3×3 is permitted but not 5v5, or 4v4)
The Game format will be 3×3, not 3 on 3. For ages 11 and up games will be to 21 or 10 mins, whichever comes first. For U11 the games will go 10 mins.
For those of you who are not familiar with 3×3, it is being introduced as an Olympic sport this year.
3×3 is a fast-paced continuous game with very few stops in play.
Please have a look at the following links for more information about 3×3
The vision of 3×3: https://fiba3x3.com/en/vision.html
The Rules: https://fiba3x3.com/en/rules.html
Ages 11 and up will play on 10-foot baskets, Ages 9-10 will play at 9 feet and ages 7-8 will play at 8 feet.
Game days would also be 1 hour broken into 20 min practice/warmup with their coach. followed by 3 – 3×3 matches.
2 teams would be scheduled to play against each other.
With the split teams into 4, each game session would be a 4 team round robin, each team would play 3 10 min games.
We will have a knowledgeable staff who will be reffing/scorekeeping the games. As well as a gym supervisor overseeing the courts.

Registration
Registration will be done online centrally through the WMBA website using the RAMP registration system.
We will offer Early Bird registration at $165 until March 31st. After that deadline, we will accept registrations for one more week until April 7th at $185.
