To our West End community,
We hope you are all doing well and staying healthy amid the lifting of restrictions. Unfortunately even with some of the restrictions being relaxed Valour Community Centre’s three sites will remain closed. Our executive board had a meeting at which we discussed possible scenarios for being open and staying safe. We tried to balance the needs of the community with the financial aspect of having our buildings open. Currently Valour CC is not generating any income. With the provincial guidelines we would have to pay two staff every time the building was open and a typical hall rental does not pay enough money to cover both staff. None of our sports teams that normally pay to use the sites are currently operating.
We looked at just reopening our child care programs as we realize the need in the community for these programs. However the one at our Orioles site is run by the city during the summer and they are not holding these programs at community centres this year. Following the phase three guidelines means that we can only have 50 people in our buildings at a time. We looked at ways that we could open the summer childcare program at our Isaac site, but we would have had to raise our prices and there was not enough demand for it to be able to follow through.

Any updates that we receive in regards to sports will also be posted on the website and Facebook.
As of now our plan is to re-open in September. What that will look like in terms of hours, childcare and rentals we’re not sure yet. The volunteer board of Valour Community Centre will be working hard this summer to find the best way to serve the needs of the community while staying within the provincial guidelines.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this causes. We miss seeing all the members of our community and we are hoping that soon we will be able to open in a way that works for all of us.
